JC MSFL Div 1: Hendon Utd B 2 Montana Boca United A 3

A strike from Trevor Henen kept Montana on course for promotion into the top-flight for the first time as they came from behind to beat struggling Hendon at Oxhey Playing Fields.

When talking about promotion, Montana boss Marc Ziedman said he would be disappointed if his side would not make the top tier of Jewish football but stressed that it is completely out of his hands. Ziedman watched his side struggle to a 3-2 victory over Hendon United B where his team did not get things their own way, but resilience showed and a fantastic second half display proved the better for Hendon who were fighting for survival.

Hendon started the brightest and deservedly took the lead after 10 minutes when Benjy Engelsman's shot from 20 yards out flew past Montana keeper Ben Law.

Straight from the kick off Montana went up the other end and Trevor Henen chipped over Nicky Rosenthal to level the scores.

On 25 minutes Hendon took the lead again. Chaim Gothold played through an exquisite pass to Gavin Noe who shrugged off his marker and neatly slotted home from close range.

Chances were few and far between for Montana and Simon Peterman had a great chance to level the scores but his tame shot was saved by Rosenthal.

Henen was next to go close and did everything right in rounding the keeper but he lost his balance and couldn’t poke the ball home, instead his shot went wide of the post, a la Kanu.

The equaliser came on the stoke of half-time. A Henen free-kick was well saved by Rosenthal who couldn’t hold onto the loose ball. The ball fell to the head of Raymond Harrod who hit the bar but he was on hand to convert the rebound to send his side in at the break level.

Montana boss Ziedman rightly laid into his troops at the interval and it was not surprising that they completely dominated the second half.

Chance after chance fell to Montana but they just could not put them away. The impressive Tom Miller was finding space on the left flank but he had no support from his strikers. Harrod then had a header cleared off the line by David Atkins. Henen was next to go close but his shot was well saved by Rosenthal. It was looking like being one of those days for Montana until the breakthrough on 75 minutes. Andrew Binstock played through a sublime ball to Henen, who beat the offside trap and slotted home past Rosenthal sending wild celebrations on the touchline. Peterman than had a great chance to increase the lead but his 25 yard thunderbolt was tipped over acrobatically by Rosenthal.

Montana held on to take what could be a vital three points in what has been a very good season for them.

Montana boss Marc Ziedman told JC Sport that "whatever division his side will be in next season, after being written off and tipped for relegation, he is extremely proud of his boys and just hopes that results go the right way elsewhere".
